About the event

Winter is when we do the work to make spring bloom big! Join urban permaculture expert Angelo Eliades to learn how to prune your fruit trees this season.

You will learn how to:

  • carry out formative pruning to shape young trees
  • maintenance pruning to maintain the size of established trees
  • renovation pruning to tidy up overgrown trees and reduce their size.

For gardeners of all experience levels, this training session will cover the basic theory and fundamentals of fruit tree pruning, how to prune trees with special pruning requirements such as figs, pomegranates and persimmons, and winter fruit tree pest control. This is a 2-hour workshop that includes a 15-minute questions and answers session and a warm cup of farm tea at the end.

*Waring (wombat) is the coldest, wettest Wurundjeri season, spanning from April - July, where mushrooms and moths flourish and wombats roam in the afternoon sun.

Angelo Eliades is a presenter, trainer and writer in the areas of sustainable gardening and permaculture. He has worked as a horticulturist in the garden nursery industry over the last ten years, writes for a major Australian gardening magazine, has a demonstration food forest garden in Melbourne’s inner suburbs, and runs the educational website Deep Green Permaculture.
