About the event

Composting at Home, with Shani Shafrir

Have you thought about composting at home, but are not sure where to start?

Composting our organic waste is a great way to reduce our footprint, and in turn, get a super nutritious feed for our plants. In this workshop, Shani will guide us through the most common home composting systems and how to keep them in balance.

You'll learn about:

  • Different options for composting at home: cold composting, worm farms and bokashi bins
  • The advantages and limitations of each composting system
  • How to set up and maintain a cold compost or worm farm
  • What foods and organic waste can go into each system
  • How to balance you waste inputs to get healthy compost

SHANI SHAFRIR (she/they) is a therapeutic horticulturist with a burning passion for creating communities around sustainable living, food growing and circular economy. They grew up in Israel, in an agricultural household, and bring with them years of experience in restaurants, university art departments, disability services and community gardens - skills and interests that inform their holistic practice. Shani firmly believes in the power of green spaces and gardening to bring people together, enhance wellbeing and bring about a sense of joy.
